The last two weeks since our previous event in Estonia, the team from Redline Racing have had some time off between events in various locations in Europe. If you keep up to date with the Alpari World Match Racing Tour, Redline Racing’s long term goal, you may have seen our bowman Patrick sailing with the Danish team of Trefor Racing at the recent Sopot Match Race in Poland. Patrick and the team performed well in what were light and choppy conditions on tricky boats, finishing a very credible 6th. Patrick has come back with lots of stories and new ideas for the team to try for the rest of the tour. Matt and Alex flew to London where Matt was nearly sent back to Tallinn after misplacing his passport between the plane and passport control! Luckily for him, some Welsh heritage meant he was allowed to enter the country and we were our own way to see family in Wales.
With Patrick joining the team in Wales after his event, the team recharged on some delicious meals cooked by Matt’s nana, Linda and some solid night’s sleep. We were also lucky enough to spend some time at Celtic Crossfit Newport where we joined in with the workouts keeping the fitness levels up between events.
The team is now on our way to Helsinki where we will be competing in the Grade 4 Jacquart Match Cup. The event will be sailed in Elliot 6ms, the same boats used for the women’s match racing in the London 2012 Olympics. We have sailed the boats once before in Sydney at the Hardy Cup where they proved a challenge. They are incredibly manoeuvrable, quick to stop and start and easy get out of tight spots making it very different racing to the
Foundation 36 racing that we were used to at the time. Since being in Europe the team has done a lot more sailing on smaller boats so we are feeling much more confident and hoping for a better result than in Sydney back in February.
Below is the list of competitors for the Jacquart Match Cup, Helsinki:
Lastly, we would like to extend a massive thanks to Matt’s Grandparents Linda and Ivor for having us for 10 days. The guys had heaps of fun and it was the perfect pit stop between events. Hopefully we see you back in Australia in December!
