The last regatta for our summer was the Hardy Cup in Sydney, we flew out on the night of the Warren Jones with the red eye tiger flight. This event is sailed in Elliot 7’s with 4 crew and an asymmetrical kite. For this event we welcomed Seamus Mulholland-Patterson who is currently in the thick of the 470 draft. Upon arrival we were greeted by the organisers of the event who drove us to the club while we waited for out host to collect us. We took the opportunity to walk around Kirribilli and view the Sydney harbour spectacle.
Since the team has sailed the boats less than 10 times we had a challenging first round robin with 4 losses, similar to the Warren Jones we ironed out the problems and picked up the intensity for the second round robin where we only lost 2 races. The Qualified us in 4th place going into the Semi Finals. We were picked by the eventual winner and local legend Jay Griffin who sailed much better than us in the semi-final to win 3-0. We were disappointed to not put up a better fight but Jay knew the boats and out sailed us. We then came up against the Warren Jones winner in the petite final as we battled for 3rd Place. This was a great series and came down to the final race. We managed to beat 36 below racing off the line and held onto the lead for the entire race to Just cross the line in front. We were very happy to walk away with 3rd. We felt that it was a reasonable comeback from our 5th Place at Warren Jones. See photos from the event below.
From here the team will start preparing for the European and US summer where we place to further climb the ISAF world rankings!
Once again the Redline Racing team want to thanks South of Perth Yacht Club and Musto performance gear for supporting us through these events.
